My first taste of Fiji was in 2006. It was the start of an 8 month journey around the southern hemisphere. When I first got off the plane I was welcomed by live music and joyful, smiling people. Twelve years later I decided to revisit Fiji to get my Dive Master certification. Long story short, I spotted Julie from one boat to another in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. I worked with her in Kauai, Hawaii in 1999 when I was schlepping dive gear and getting my open water certification. Serendipity that I should run into an old friend! I remember enjoying Julie's company in Hawaii and what an amazing diver she was even back then. She's still doing it today, and now at one of the most beautiful dive locations in the world, the Rainbow Reef.
I love the culture and the Fijian people, I love warm tropical air, I love the clear blue ocean! Please join me in this very special corner of the Earth. Details are below!! BULA BULA!!!!
More about Rainbow Reef:
"See for yourself why the Cousteau family calls Fiji “the soft coral capital of the world” and why Scuba Diver magazine has repeatedly rated Taveuni dive sites among the top ten on the planet. The tidal current and constant year–round water temperature of the Somosomo Strait create an ideal environment for more than 390 species of corals, marine creatures such as anemones, turtles, eels and nearly 1500 kinds of fish. Fiji’s world–class reefs were featured in a November 2004 National Geographic article and online video."

Contact Ann Marie with any additional questions. Here are a few quick answers:
Can I get an open water certification while I'm there?
Yes! I would recommend doing your PADI on line, and possibly your pool dives so that you can do your two open water dives while you are in Fiji.
Do I have to bring my on yoga mat?
Yes! I recommend bringing a travel mat that can fold or bend easily into a suitcase/backpack. Maybe the mat makes a one way trip.
How much is the airfare?
About $1200 - $1500. I recommend the following....fly out of LAX directly to Na(n)di and then to Taveuni on Fiji Airways. If you are flying from Tahoe get a direct flight from Reno to LAX. There are flights from SFO to Taevuni as well, however it's easier to get to LAX direct from Reno, I book on Southwest.
What should I bring?
Not too much!! A few important items:
- Reef safe sun block
- yoga mat and any personal props
- bathing suit (towels are provided)
- gifts for local villagers (they love pens and pencils, art supplies, flip flops, sweets)
- any personal snacks/electrolytes (careful not to bring any nuts, they won't let you in with them, nuts in bars are ok)
